Westfield Outdoors is a large German company that are renowned throughout Europe for the quality of their products.
New for 2019 the Travel Smart Pro Hydrus 420 is available in a Midline driveaway awning (for vans 210 to 240cm) & Highline version (for Vans 240 to 290cm). A good quality Air framed driveaway-awning with many features not found on some of the other manufacturers products. The fabric is 200D Ripstop Polyester with a UV coating. Other features like Metal rings used on the guy line attachment points, quick release buckle with swivels on the storm straps, slide lock guy line runners, quality fabrics and stitching
Another 1st with this awning is the ability to change the awning from a multiple inflation system to a single inflation Awning, by purchasing the optional Single inflation kit. This replaces the bracer beam in the awning with a tube that attaches into 2 valves situated on the top of the 2 main air tubes. Once installed you are effectively jointing all the tubes and can inflate the awning from either of the existing inflation points. It also has the advantage of being able to remove the Single inflation kit to revert back to multiple inflation, if you experience any problems.
Like all the Westfield awnings the Hydrus 420 features lots of mesh doors/panels to aid ventilation and help minimise condensation without letting the bugs in.
The Hydrus 420 is a campsite friendly side facing driveaway awning. The front door has a large rainsafe canopy and lots and lots of windows with privacy blinds, making this a very usable awning, well designed and with Lots of the features that make Westfield well worth considering.
Perhaps our only complaint would be the lack of a door on the side of the awning.

This enables you to have a huge 420cm awning that gives you an amazing amount of space. You can add the optional oversized inner tent to give you an extra bedroom and still have space for furniture.
The awning uses the Advanced Air System, which gives you the option of turning your multi-inflation awning into a single inflation awning, by purchasing the optional single inflation kit. It already comes with two storm roof poles for added stability in adverse weather.
The Hydrus Pro features the HydraDore SL PRO fabric which gives you the best balance between lightweight, for ease of use, and durability for strength and longevity.
The fully 'tubbed', sewn in groundsheet is great at keeping the weather out, but with the added peg down doorways you can also remove those annoying trip hazards when the doors are in use.
Advanced Air System (AAS)
The Advanced Air System (AAS) is a high specification air tube system. It has been created to give you the benefits of both a multi-inflation system as well as the ease of use of a single inflation system. The system uses 4 layers for strength and stability. It has the internal bladder which is the part that you inflate. You then have a dual layer protective cover that has a PE and polyester covers bonded together, that adds protection and increases stability. The PE layer of the protective cover is also reinforced at the stress points giving it extra strength and stability. You then have a sleeve which is sewn into the awning which adds a final layer of protection and stability. This not only improves the protection around your air tube, as well as the stability of the awning as the tube is held in position better.
The advanced air system also gives you the unique ability to choose between multi-inflation or single inflation. Out of the bag the awning is multi-inflation, allowing you to pump up the air beams individually, which makes each tube extremely easy to pump up. It also makes it easier to deflate as each tube defaults instantly by removing the value making it easier and quicker to deflate as no air gets trapped in the system. The use of separate tubes also gives you security against failure. If there is a failure only one tube is affected. But you can add the single inflation kit (purchased separately) at any time. The single inflation kit is screwed into place once, then left in and it becomes part of the system, turning the awning from multi-inflation into single inflation, so then the awning is inflated and deflated from one single point giving you great ease of use, especially if used in conjunction with an electric pump.
The system also has you covered in the event of a failure. Firstly you can remove any affected part of the system, simply by unscrewing the affected tube. The main beam will self seal, leaving you the ability to fix the affected tube. Next the tubes themselves are designed so they can be fixed, by yourself on site, so there is no need to ruin your break and send the awning away to be repaired. You simply unzip the sleeve to get to the protective cover. This is then unzipped which gives you access to the bladder itself. This bladder can be removed, repaired using a puncture repair kit (we recommend using a professional repair kit as some cheaper kits have sub-standard glue) and then put back in. It also uses an easy to use single way valve for inflation which is simplicity itself; simply push the pump in and you are ready to go, there are no fiddly values or sockets, sheer simplicity and ease of use.
HydroDore SL PRO Fabric
An advanced middleweight 150D material with a high performance coating giving a hydrostatic head of 4000mm. which is far and above the 1000mm considered fully waterproof ensuring that your awning will not leak and the material is waterproof.. It keeps the weight down making the awning or tent easier to use, pack away and erect, but the added durability means it will last longer. The high performance coating adds durability and gives a very high level of water proofing and protection against the weather.
Anti-Weather System (AWS)
The anti-weather system is not one item but a host of improvements and updates that gives the awning better weather protection. There are additional weather panels sewn into the canvas at points where the weather could get in. This panel is P.U. coated on both sides and taped on both sides giving you better weather protection.
There is additional guttering on external windows with zips, which add extra protection against the rain. All tie back points or pockets that are sewn in are made from 100% waterproof PVC rather than standard webbing material. Standard material can soak water up and eventually lead to leaks, the waterproof PVC simply does not.
Inner Tent Ready
This awning is inner tent ready ready, which means it can gave at least one inner tent fitted inside the awning to give you that sleeping pod / sleeping area. The inner tent is simplicity itself, to fit it all you do is clip the inner tent in place using the toggles on the inner tent and the sewn in toggles points in the awing, they are even colour coded to make it easier. If you don’t want to use the inner tent during the day, you can simply remove it or even just drop it to the floor.
LED Ready
This awning is LED ready, which means that it has LED light sleeves sewn into the awning. These allow you to slide in the LED lighting strips (available separately) giving you the perfect light solution for your awning.
